We are proud to announce that, thanks to the generosity of the local community, we hit our fundraising goal of $450,000 for the revitalization of Constitution Park and have broken ground! Located next to the Village Hall and a neighbor to the Library, several houses of worship, FASNY, and our Boston Post Road commercial area, this park will now become a central respite accessible to everyone. Investing in and renovating Constitution Park will make our cherished village a more attractive place to live and work and strengthen our community.
Thanks to the generosity of friends and neighbors like you, we have officially begun renovations on Constitution Park. On October 24th, Mayor Lorraine Walsh, members of our Village Board of Trustees, members of our FOLP Board of Trustees, and members of the community joined in a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction.
Over the next few weeks, you will notice many changes happening in the park. The central gazebo will be removed and we are finalizing plans for a new gazebo that will be integrated into the planned performance plaza. The 9/11 memorials within the old gazebo will remain preserved and protected during the renovations, and will be re-installed in place as a spot for reflection and remembrance in our new Park.
Materials for the promenade, allees, sculpture garden and children’s grove will be delivered in the coming weeks, and we will work closely with the Village to keep our community informed of our progress this Fall and Winter.
We hope you join us in celebrating this exciting milestone, and we thank you again for your support and generosity.
Preview of Design Highlights to be Implemented:
- A shaded French-inspired promenade running the length of the park
- Common area for public concerts and performances
- Sculpture garden
- Children’s grove
An important tenet of the improvement of this natural space is the positive interaction we expect it to have with the local business district giving those who wish to dine or shop in our community a place to rest or linger a bit longer. To this end, we are also already imagining a host of events to draw our community together in this public space including summer concerts, family-friendly events as well as our favorites like the annual art show, holiday lights, and Ragamuffin parade reception.
